Employment contract notice period calculator
Enter the type of contract, the start date of your current contract, earlier periods of work with this employer and the day the notice is given. The calculator adds up your length of service, shows the notice period under Article 34 or 36 of the Labour Code and the last day of the contract, applying the rule that a period in weeks ends on a Saturday and a period in months ends on the last day of the month.
How we calculate
- Fixed-term and indefinite contracts: 2 weeks if employed for less than 6 months, 1 month if employed for at least 6 months, 3 months if employed for at least 3 years (Article 36 § 1 of the Labour Code). Total length of service with this employer counts, including previous contracts.
- Earlier periods of employment with the same employer are added together, even if there were breaks between them; breaks do not count. Overlapping periods count once (Article 302(1) § 10 of the Labour Code), and incomplete months are counted using the rule 30 days = one month (Article 114 of the Civil Code in conjunction with Article 300 of the Labour Code).
- Length of service with the employer includes employment with a predecessor if the workplace or part of it was transferred to the current employer (Article 36 § 1(1) and Article 23(1) of the Labour Code), and documented periods of a mandate contract, agency contract or business activity performed for this employer (Article 302(1) § 8 of the Labour Code, rules in force from 2026). An undocumented or uncertain period stops the calculation: the result then requires additional documents or advice from the PIP.
- Probationary contract: 3 working days (probation up to 2 weeks), 1 week (longer than 2 weeks), 2 weeks (3 months), Article 34 of the Labour Code.
- A notice period counted in weeks ends on a Saturday, and one counted in months ends on the last day of the month (Article 30 § 2(1) of the Labour Code).
- The notice period counts towards length of service. If you pass the 6-month or 3-year threshold during it, the longer period applies. The calculator takes this into account.
- After notice is given, the parties may agree an earlier termination date (Article 36 § 6), and the employer may shorten the 3-month period to 1 month in the event of bankruptcy, liquidation or for other reasons not attributable to the employee, with compensation (Article 36(1)).
