Statutory interest on late wages: calculator
Calculate statutory interest for late payment on an outstanding amount. The calculator splits the period by the rates published by the Minister of Justice and shows each calculation.
Assumptions
- Statutory interest for late payment is due for the period of delay, even if the creditor has suffered no loss (Article 481 § 1 of the Civil Code). The rate is the NBP reference rate plus 5.5 percentage points (Article 481 § 2).
- We count days from the day after the due date up to and including the date given.
- Formula for each period: amount × annual rate × number of days / 365. The law does not set the number of days in a year for this calculation, so we use 365 in leap years too. We round the result to the nearest grosz.
- We do not take part payments or set-offs into account. If there are several overdue amounts, calculate each one separately.
- The ELI register contains no notice of a rate change in 2024, so the calculator applies the 11.25% rate from 5 October 2023 to 7 May 2025.
